EAGE is proud to present its 4th official SLT Russia & CIS student lecturer: Dr Evgeniy Kovalevskiy, leading engineer, Central Geophysical Expedition, Moscow, Russia.
His three hour lecture (including breaks) on Geological Modelling on the Base of Geostatistics gives an overview of basic concepts and applications of statistical methods used in geophysics.
The lecturer considers geological models, used in oil and gas prospecting, exploration and production process. The geological model construction is described in many details. The transition from deterministic modelling to geostatistical one is shown as a natural step, aimed to reproduce the true geological variability in a model. The classic two point geostatistics, based on a variogram, is expounded thoroughly, in complete. Much attention is given to the correctness of geostatistics application in real geomodelling problems. Additional stochastic techniques like object modelling, multipoint geostatistics and the fuzzy model are also described. The most actual problem — history matching based on geological model stochastic realizations — is considered in the last part of the lecture.
