First Meeting of EAGE Latin America Student Chapters

13 Student Chapters Headed Towards First Regional Summit

The First Meeting of EAGE Latin America Student Chapters (Primer Encuentro de Capítulos EAGE – 1st ECE Latinoamérica) is an international online event organized by all EAGE Student Chapters in the region, which will take place between 30 August and 10 September 2021. This event has the participation of undergraduate and graduate students in geosciences and engineering from 5 countries (Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Peru) and 13 student chapters from different Latin American universities.

The idea of 1st ECE Latinoamérica came from the desire of students to break down some barriers within geosciences. The main objective of the event is to unite students and professionals from all over the continent and bring greater synergy among the EAGE student chapters in the region, encouraging a stronger and more united scientific community.

One of the goals is to make it possible to exchange information between scientists from different universities and countries. As the idea of the event is interaction, the event includes a series of content, courses and lectures on current and relevant issues in the training of future professionals in geosciences and related areas.

On the other hand, the event has a section exclusively for students where those interested could disseminate and discuss their scientific production with colleagues who have different academic backgrounds and experiences. The topics included are multidisciplinary, within which are Geology, Geophysics, Solid Earth, Oil and gas exploration, Mining, Energy transition, Data science and machine learning, Soft skills in the 21st century, etc.

Certainly, the interaction between undergraduate and graduate students in geology, geophysics, petroleum engineering will be a great experience. Bringing together Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Peru has been fundamental for the organizing committee and the technical committee of the event to get to know new realities and broaden horizons about the different cultures and their ways of approaching geosciences, remotely.

EAGE Latin America Student Community hopes that this is just the first seed planted for a more integrated future in Latin America, with more partnerships, integrated activities and, the leading role of students.

Siddharth Misra

Prof Dr Siddharth Misra’s research focuses on improving subsurface characterization and prospect evaluation for the exploration of hydrocarbons, minerals and water resources.

His major contribution is in the theory of electromagnetic responses of geological formations to various charge polarization phenomena. The theory has enabled him to introduce a multi-frequency electromagnetic log-inversion technique to remove dielectric effects for improved estimation of hydrocarbon pore volume.
