The EAGE Board has unanimously expressed shock and dismay at the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In addition to a special registration fee waiver programme through which Ukrainian geoscientists and engineers are granted free access to EAGE conferences, workshops and courses, the EAGE Ukraine Professional Development Fund is being introduced. This Fund within the EAGE Student Fund is to support the continuous professional development of Ukrainian students and academic community, as well as the community of Ukraine professionals involved in career development activities aimed at Ukrainian students, and will offer contribution towards the total expenses for attending an event.
The initiative for the EAGE Ukraine Professional Development Fund was inspired by one of our members, Dr. Pauli Saksa (Geosto Oy, Finland). He stated “In mid-March EAGE introduced a special fee waiver in support of Ukrainian geoscientists and engineers. However, funding to arrange traveling costs might still be an issue for many. So it called for action and I decided to support the travel expenses part. I think that it is crucial to keep Ukrainian professional sector on-going and to enable management of Ukrainian natural resources in the future.”
Like Dr. Saksa, EAGE members are welcomed to help support the travel and accommodation costs of their Ukrainian colleagues’ attending the 83rd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition and other EAGE events in 2022.
