The 87th EAGE Annual Conference and Exhibition in Aberdeen, UK, buzzed with the energy of nearly 6,000 global attendees, serving as a vibrant stage for active talent development. The conference thrived as a hub for fresh ideas, proven excellence, and mentorship. Their participation in Aberdeen, UK this year brought fresh ideas and energy to keep our industry moving forward.

Our Communities Have a Key Role in EAGE

The Hackathon The Energy: AI Nexus was organized by the EAGE Technical Community on AI with Dell Technologies and Nvidia as sponsors. During two intense days, participants worked together in teams to build and manage a thriving virtual city. The challenge required teams to involve all their scientific knowledge as well as their collaboration and communication skills to strategically place renewable and non-renewable energy assets while balancing a limited budget and maintaining real-time grid stability, all without relying on battery storage. 

As a cornerstone EAGE activity, the Hackathon perfectly embodies our spirit of innovation while serving as a dynamic platform for networking, team building, and community growth. We want to extend our congratulations to this edition’s winning team: Goutham Indukuri, Abdulla Huseyinli, and Jubal Chandy Jacob, students from the University of Aberdeen. 

Empowering the Next Generation: Our Students

Students are a massive pillar of EAGE. T In order to involve students with the geoscience experts and other professionals, EAGE has created several activities like the Global GeoQuiz, the Laurie Dake Challenge and the Outreach Day to keep the future generations engaged and motivated to actively participate in the development of the future of geoscience and engineering. 

During our Annual Conference, the Laurie Dake Challenge promoted a cross disciplinary integration between geoscience, engineering and universities. At the competition, teams excelled in some key areas such as teamwork, data integration, management, cooperation and communication skills. With the collaboration of bp, the challenge required teams to work on a data set provided by the company in order for them to propose inquisitive, innovative and analytical solutions. We want to congratulate once more the winners of the Laurie Dake Challenge.

Finally, the Outreach Day was a first time initiative that gathered more than 200 secondary school students from Aberdeen and the Northern East region in Scotland to explore the role of geoscientists. Through various activities promoted by some companies that attended the conference, students were able to have hands-on experience on how geosciences are present in everyday life activities.
