Join collaborative webinar on mineral exploration

Inspiring Through Partnership: Best Chapters Unite for End-of-Year Event

If you have been following this year’s race, you know selection was tough but two EAGE communities distinguished themselves for their outstanding work: Local Chapter Netherlands (Best Local Chapter of 2023) and the IPN Mexico Student Chapter (Best Student Chapter of 2023). And before 2023 is over, these winning Chapters have one final surprise in store, and you are all invited to join!

LC Netherlands
SC IPN México

Earlier this year we invited them to work together on a collaborative online talk on a topic that makes them both passionate about and has deep implications for the future of geoscience in their respective countries. We trust many more will find the meeting interesting as they chose mineral exploration

Minerals – particularly critical ones – are essential ingredients for the energy transition and an exciting area for geoscientists, where technologies and practices are developing quickly. Feven Desta, Assistant Professor at TU Delft, Netherlands, will be sharing her expertise on this during the webinar. In her own words:

“Everything around us is built up out of minerals, the buildings we work in, our phones, our daily lives are founded on minerals. So, we need minerals, we need extraction, and we need to do it environmentally friendly”.

We will also hear from Chris Nind, Vice-President Business Development at Abitibi Geophysics, Canada, who is also a member of the EAGE Technical Committee on Mineral Exploration Geophysics.

“Success will require integration of geology, geophysics and geochemistry, making use of our entire mineral exploration toolkit to improve significant discovery rates.”
– Chris Nind

On top of that, it will be inspiring to see two of EAGE’s most active communities connect to host a technical discussion and share best practices in the process, as well as advice – from more experienced members to the next generation of geoscientists and engineers.

Both groups have already had a tremendous journey, having started in the midst of the pandemic and already set important milestones, so we all look forward to this partnership coming into place on 30 November at 17:00 – 18:00 CET | 10:00 – 11:00 CST. Will you join?

Siddharth Misra

Prof Dr Siddharth Misra’s research focuses on improving subsurface characterization and prospect evaluation for the exploration of hydrocarbons, minerals and water resources.

His major contribution is in the theory of electromagnetic responses of geological formations to various charge polarization phenomena. The theory has enabled him to introduce a multi-frequency electromagnetic log-inversion technique to remove dielectric effects for improved estimation of hydrocarbon pore volume.
