Geoscience Communication and Public Engagement

The EAGE Special Interest Community on Geoscience Communication & Public Engagement is a dynamic group of geoscientists, educators, and communicators dedicated to enhancing public understanding of Earth’s systems and the role of geoscientists and engineers in the Energy Transition. The community is a focal point for various communication initiatives.

Stay connected to the latest activities, news and opportunities by updating your EAGE affiliations or joining the LinkedIn group.

Objectives

  • Enhance communication skills of geoscientists for impactful storytelling and media engagement.
  • Provide knowledge sharing, expert guidance, and hands-on training for effective geoscience communication.
  • Bridge the gap between geoscientific discovery and public action through outreach and collaboration.

Upcoming Activities

Previous Activities

EAGE offered a transformative short course led by Professor Iain Stewart during GET2024 held in November 2024 in Rotterdam.

The course, Geoscience Communication and Public Engagement’, underscored the importance of communication skills in fostering trust, securing project approvals, and bridging the gap between technical expertise and public understanding.

Committee

The Geoscience Communication and Public Engagement Community is coordinated by a Committee that serves for two years. The current Committee is serving the 2025 – 2027 term.

Siddharth Misra

Award-Spinning-coin-

Prof Dr Siddharth Misra’s research focuses on improving subsurface characterization and prospect evaluation for the exploration of hydrocarbons, minerals and water resources.

His major contribution is in the theory of electromagnetic responses of geological formations to various charge polarization phenomena. The theory has enabled him to introduce a multi-frequency electromagnetic log-inversion technique to remove dielectric effects for improved estimation of hydrocarbon pore volume.
