Highlights Day 4

Future of Geoscience, Education and Wrap-Up Community Hub Activities

After last night’s conference evening we’re already nearing the end of the 82nd EAGE Conference & Exhibition. Thursday’s programme looked ahead not only to the legacy the meeting would have, but to the future of education and the energy industry. With challenges such as energy access, decarbonization and talent acquisition coming up there’s a lot to focus on in the immediate future.

General Impressions

Thursday brought the final day of insightful conversations in the conference rooms (and some of it in the hallways during the coffee breaks) and at the exhibition, also giving us a chance to receive the first feedback on the meeting!

We were pleased to hear that so many of our delegates were happy that they got the chance to finally reunite and spend a week discussing what they’ve all been up to in the past year – all the novel research and developments they have achieved.

Part of this new research were our final three dedicated sessions: Petroleum Systems of Northwest Europe (II), Modified Salinity Water Flooding in Carbonate Reservoirs (II) and Depositional Processes and Stratigraphic Modelling.

All we can say is that we were striving to deliver a great event and we’re glad to know our participants enjoyed their time with us in Amsterdam and online. Moving forward, we’ll certainly build on your feedback moving forward to our next annual conference in Madrid.

Exhibition

The final day of the exhibition saw many closing conversations and promises to reunite next year. After a week of promoting new products and services, sharing advancements from the industry, and expanding their networks, our exhibitors closed the day satisfied with yet another successful EAGE Annual Exhibition in their portfolio.

Community Hub

Great sessions at the community area were at their end at the EAGE Annual 2021. Thursday discussions started with the Local Chapter (LC) Session “Uncertainty in Geosciences” with Pieter Pestman, Roald van Borselen and Pedram Masoudi. Thanks to the joint team of three EAGE LCs for bringing this to the Annual: LC London and the winners of this year’s Best LC Prizes – LC Paris and LC Netherlands.

The EU Session brought together Valentina Socco and Ingeborg Graabak to share their success stories working on EU-funded projects Smart Exploration and openENTRANCE, respectively.

We wrapped up the social programme at the community area with an informal members get-together and a special edition of the famous EAGE GeoQuiz to raise funds for the EAGE Student Fund, the charity to support the next generation of geoscientists and engineers.

Outro

That’s it for this year! With all of our presentations recorded and stored delegates can continue to explore the technical programme content in the months to come. All recorded material will remain online until January 2022.

We hope you all enjoyed this week and we look forward to seeing you again next year in Madrid, 5-9 June.

Siddharth Misra

Award-Spinning-coin-

Prof Dr Siddharth Misra’s research focuses on improving subsurface characterization and prospect evaluation for the exploration of hydrocarbons, minerals and water resources.

His major contribution is in the theory of electromagnetic responses of geological formations to various charge polarization phenomena. The theory has enabled him to introduce a multi-frequency electromagnetic log-inversion technique to remove dielectric effects for improved estimation of hydrocarbon pore volume.
